By airing its own drama series in Friesian, the Friesian broadcasting
company has come up with a first in Dutch broadcasting history. Never
before has a regional network been able to create such a big
production. The series was shot on various sets in the Omroep Friesland
studios. The outdoor scenes were filmed in the area around Leeuwarden.
The experiment Baas Boppe Baas (There’s always someone better) was in
fact an instant success. In December 2001 every episode drew an average
of 130,000 viewers.
Themes: asylum seekers, discrimination, sexual orientation and language
and culture clashes are themes that are addressed in Baas Boppe Baas.
What it comes down to is that at the end of every episode, main
character Beant Baas has learned another lesson.
