Eva is 15. She wants to be a clothes designer and is happy designing T-shirts for her friends. She has a crush on Mees. He’s in love with her, too, but they’re too shy to talk to each other! He’s a good guitar player and starts writing a song about her, but before he can sing it, she disappears.
Privately, Eva’s life is filled with fear and unhappiness. She gets a creepy feeling whenever her stepfather, Willem, comes close to her. She tries to talk to her mother about it, but she’s not listening. When her mother leaves for a business trip, Eva is afraid to stay at home with her stepfather, especially after she secretly checks his computer and finds he’s visiting porno sites. She runs out of the house, hoping to stay with her best girlfriend, but when that’s not possible, Eva feels totally alone.
Unhappy and scared, she wanders around, but doesn’t notice that Ricardo, a streetwise hustler, has carefully been watching her and plans to move in and take advantage of her vulnerable situation. Preying on young girls is his specialty.
Ricardo pretends to comfort her, and when he offers Eva a safe place to stay, she reluctantly goes with him. He cheers her up, buys her new clothes and promises her a trip to Paris. On the road, she finally realizes she’s in danger and struggles to escape, but Ricardo kidnaps her and drags her into a sex club where she’s held prisoner with other girls her age.
To her surprise, Eva discovers that Willem is actually an undercover cop in charge of breaking up illegal operations! He and Mees rescue her and bring her home.
LOVER AND LOSER is a film with a serious message, but it’s also a film filled with love, laughter and music and a positive approach to life and the future.
