The Golden Whip (De Gouden Swipe)

De Gouden Swipe is set in the North of Friesland in the early Nineteen Thirties. Ate Wallinga (Steven de Jong), the son of Douwe (Rense Westra) confronts his Dad with his mother's confession about her life. While Ate is listening to the confession, Douwe wins the coveted Golden Whip at the racetrack. When he comes home, the conflict escalates to such an extent that Douwe breaks his Golden Whip on his son's back. The source of this evil turns out to be Douwe's ‘so-called' friend Wilco Herema. Ate decides to leave. Then Mom dies, and this brings father and son back together, but not for long: a new conflict develops when Ate falls in love with Janke, and Douwe tries everything to forbid this love. Douwe runs away from the problems and concentrates once again on winning the Golden Whip. However... he's not the only one who wants to win Friesland's greatest prize.
